August 9, 2014 Labrador, Canada!

The ferry ride from Newfoundland to Labrador was not smooth!  The wind was up, and there were some pretty big swells out there, plus lots of whitecaps - we were happy to see the dock.  We set up camp in rain and wind, using our rain gear for the first time this trip.  Our first full day in Labrador was misty/rainy and lots of wind.  So, we visited two museums and the Pointe Amour Lighthouse!

We saw versions of this sled everywhere in Newfoundland and Labrador, still being used to haul firewood.
But now they are pulled by fourwheelers and snowmobiles, instead of dogs.
This is a bear trap.  Yeow!

The Pointe Amour lightkeeper job was summertime only, since the Straits of Belle Isle freeze solid in the winter.
This Fresnel lens was a half-circle and aimed out at the Straits of Belle Isle.
The walls of this lighthouse were mighty thick!
Each window we passed on our upward climb had a placard with a bit of trivia.

For those of you in south Alabama (you know who you are....) kindly
note that even waaaaay up here in Labrador, we see this!
