Today we visited the Gillette Castle State Park, beside the Connecticut River. The "castle" was built by an actor named William Gillette, who became famous for portraying Sherlock Holmes. He was the one who created the "Holmes" image, including the unique hat and pipe. The castle is constructed of 100% local stone, and the inside is almost all wood, right down to the light switches. Very interesting!
