August 19, 2015 Anacortes and Cap Sante, Fidalgo Island, WA (Puget Sound)

Anacortes is on Fidalgo Island, which is just north of Whidbey Island where we camped.  There is a huge boatyard on the north end of the island, which you see below.  There is also a headland called Cap Sante, with a road to a park at the top.  We went up there and clambered around on the rocks and enjoyed the excellent views.

All these sailboats were just milling around in this part of the marina, and we wondered why.........
There must have been some kind of signal, because suddenly all the sailboats took off for the Puget Sound.

A lovely Pacific madrona tree.   The bark is so fascinating with it's green and red colors.

  1. Madrone trees also shed the bark every year, and their leaves fall like Magnolia's - very messy tree, but pretty, as you say. We have quite a few in our neighborhood. Did you watch the regatta?
