July 19, 2016 Five Islands and Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, Canada

Today we went for a drive along the Glooscap Trail, which is based on legends from the Mi'kmak people.  First we stopped at Five Islands and checked out the provincial (state) park.  Beautiful place and we loved it, in spite of the high winds coming off the water.

The park ranger lady called these her "mickey mouse" signs.....  translates as home-made.
View of the "Old Wife" rock and Moose Island, one of the Five Islands.
The five islands....
High tide.
Low tide.

Some bloke drove his four-wheeler out on the mud flats where he was digging clams.
I hope he's keeping an eye on the water - they told us that the incoming tide can cover six feet of ground per minute.

Next we drove down the coast a ways and stopped at Parrsboro where we visited the local geology museum (they once found dinosaur bones here).  Also took a look at Partridge Island, where amethysts and other gemstones can still be found.

Hope you can read this.....
Partridge Island.  People search the beach for agates and other gems.
Very rocky beach, hard to walk on....
Low tide;  the cliff to the left is known for the gemstones that can be found there;
alas, we were too tired to hike all the way over there on those unforgiving rocks.....
