July 21, 2015 Twin Falls, Idaho

Today we wandered into Twin Falls and checked out the Snake River gorge.  Wow!  There are two waterfalls, the Shoshone Falls and the Twin Falls.  We visited both, and of course both are now "tamed" by hydroelectric dams.  The two bridges across the gorge were even amazing to us "flat-landers".....  We also learned that southern Idaho was a desert until they tapped into a massive aquifer beneath their feet; most crops are grown in circles with extensive irrigation.  The hay bales are about the size of a truck!

What these falls once were.

See the kayaks down there on the river?

July 20, 2015 Driving across southern Idaho....

Driving from Jackson, Wyoming to Twin Falls, Idaho, we followed the Snake River, and "jumped over that snake" multiple times.  Saw lots of osprey nests along the Palisades Reservoir.   At a rest stop we noticed the sign "geological site" so we investigated, and found ourselves in Hell's Half Acre!  Fascinating little walk....  We have such a good time driving around this big ol' country of ours.

A zillion acres of crops along this drive.....
You never know what you'll find at a rest stop..... !

July 18, 2015 Grand Teton National Park

Today we hopped in the truck and drove all around in Grand Teton National Park.  The weather was cloudy and threatening rain all day, so there wasn't much hiking going on.  But the views were dramatic, and we had a wonderful time seeing familiar places.  Here are some pictures, in no particular order.  Oh, did I mention that the wildflowers are all blooming?

Willow Flats.  That's a beaver dam in the middle.  Saw my first yellow warbler here.

July 17, 2015 Jackson, Wyoming

Spent some time wandering around one of our favorite places, Jackson Hole.  First night there, we went down to the Town Square and revisited some spots we remembered from last time, including the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar.  One of the things we like here is the many statues and sculptures.  Lucky for us, we were camped right in town and everything was nearby!

Magpies kept us company at our camper....
Trying to keep the wolves at bay...  :)
For a fee you can ride this stagecoach around the square.....
Mark Twain and some guy.
The amazing elk antler arches, one on each corner of the town square.
Elk shed their antlers annually, so these are collected by Boy Scouts.
Had a wonderful steak dinner at their Cowboy Steakhouse.
Million Dollar Bar entrance.
Barstools are saddles; silver dollars embedded in the bar.
Snow King ski resort, right there in Jackson.
