July 15, 2014 Reversing Falls, Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada

In spite of the fog and mist and rain, we ventured out this afternoon and walked around inside Market Square, which is a series of buildings and shopping areas connected by pedway.  (enclosed pedestrian walkways)  Lots of shops and even a produce market.  There was also a library and a museum.  Nice!

The library, with a whimsical little girl flying with a bunch of balloons.

Eh?

Ewwwww......

This statue was dedicated to Mr. Young who died saving a person from drowning...
Looks like he is giving the pigeon the stink eye...!

Hello?  Hello?

The only moose I've seen so far.

After we left the Market Square, we drove to a place called Reversing Falls and had dinner at The Falls restaurant there.  This is an amazing phenomenon caused by the drastic tides of this area.  During low tide, the St. John River flows out to the sea in a torrent;  during high tide, it's flat and smooth.  We were lucky enough to be there at exactly low tide, when the falls are at their most exciting.  These photos just don't do it justice.  Sadly, right across the river from these spectacular views is a huge ugly paper mill....  sheesh.

Taken from The Falls restaurant at the final downhill drop.

From the restaurant;  quite a drop down for that water.

Looking upstream at the Fallsview Park.  This is the beginning of the downhill run.

Churning & tumbling!  Reminds me of the Niagara River rapids.

Looking downstream from Fallsview Park.
The Falls restaurant is at the right side of the bridge overlooking the last downhill drop.

  1. The pictures do remind me of the rip-snortin' Niagara River. A paper mill? That's nuts. Just like the chemical plants that ruined the Niagara River. Looks like you're having fun despite less-than-stellar weather!
