August 13, 2013 Dungeness, Washington

A local resident told us that the first settlement on the Strait of Juan de Fuca in Washington was New Dungeness.  Near the closed restaurant named Three Crabs, we wandered along the rocky shore, looked at the New Dungeness Lighthouse out at the end of the spit, and drove around a bit.  Not much left of the little town but some old houses on one street - but still beautiful!  Wonder if the very tasty crab got its name from this town?

One of the hundreds of "beach shelters" we have seen....

New Dungeness lighthouse.

Gulls.  Noisy.

Some old beachcomber ambling along....

Moored in front of a beach house, ready to go....

Got a personal tour of this old school, really nice....
