July 22, 2016 Ft. Anne, Annapolis-Royal, Nova Scotia

Today we wandered up to see Fort Anne.  This site has been fortified since 1629 when the Scots came to Nova Scotia (New Scotland).  It became a French fort in the early 1630's.  Pretty typical, as far as forts go - you see one, you've seen them all.  It was a beautiful windy sunny day and we enjoyed stomping around the grounds.

The powder magazine.
Inside the powder magazine.
In the museum was a four-panel tapestry depicting the area's four centuries of history - what a labor of love!  I was impressed that it took over 100 volunteers and thousands hours to create this masterpiece.

Another part of this fort that gave me the heebie-jeebies was The Black Hole.  Enough said.  Here are the pictures.  I did go in there, but you can bet I didn't stay long.....

This is an example of the nicely manicured grass on the fort grounds.

  1. No-no-no black hole! The tapestries are beautiful. And as long as you enjoyed stomping around the ol' fort, that's all that counts!
