Today's EXplore was over to Old Town
Lunenburg, which dates back to the 1600's, beginning as a First Nations
Mi'Maq village, as most shore settlements were. The Old Town part consisted of about 20 or 30 blocks of old buildings that dated back to the early 1800's. A lot of them are painted in bright primary colors; some are still plain wood-shake siding. It was pretty touristy, with lots of souvenir shops and restaurants. The harbor and waterfront were interesting; there were two museum ships, and a Marine Museum; both were much too crowded for our taste. Actually, the whole place was crowded.
Turns out this particular weekend was a long holiday weekend here in Nova Scotia, called Natal Day. Everywhere we went was packed with people. Who knew?

Some of the old buildings reminded me of the French Quarter - as the years went by the door on this building ended up below the street level. |

Know what I remember from our visit to Lunenburg? The "Lunenburg bump." The town was a delight; glad you guys could stop there.
