July 29, 2016 Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia

Peggy's Cove is one of those quintessential quaint fishing villages that gets swarmed with tourists during the summer.  As we wander around these northern settlements, I often wonder what these places would be like in the dead of winter, and it makes me shiver.  This place, though, was so utterly charming, we could only walk around and admire everything.  We were two among the thousands who visited that day.  Ah well - even when a place is crowded, there are wonders to behold.

I think the most amazing part of this place is that the whole thing is on bare granite.  There are vast stretches of granite with patches of earth here and there.   How this village survives is beyond me.  Seems like the whole place would get blown away in the winter gales.  Yet there it is, surviving.  We both dearly love what we call "rock-hopping", clambering around on rocks.  This was rock-hopping on a massive scale.  Check the link to Peggy's Cove above and read about the geology; at the bottom of the page is a 360 panorama of the area and you will see what I mean by granite.  Amazing.

This explains the name Peggy's Cove.  Enlarge and read, if you can.
Love the colors!

Bubba made me do it.......
The Lighthouse, aswarm with tourists.
And there we are!
Look!  Bubba managed to get a shot with nobody in it!
I do enjoy hearing a bagpiper.
Cute feller!
The cove at low tide.
Dem is some big fishies!
Seen better days.
Just before you enter the village of Peggy's Cove is this memorial to Swissair Flight 111.  (read more about it here)  The memorial monument was perfect, and the words inscribed touched my soul.  Sat there stunned for a while, pondering on how quickly things can end.  And praying for those families left behind.

I love the phrase "They have been joined to the sea and the sky".
Brought tears to my eyes.

  1. Great pics -- we enjoy rock-clambering ourselves. Spent quite a bit of time on those rocks. Pretty neat, huh?
