August 15, 2012 Sea Lion Caves

Stopped in here as part of our day trip today, and wow! Sure are glad we did! Also very glad that I had a pair of gloves in the pockets of my windbreaker jacket, cause it was C-C-COLD down there! We rode an elevator down to the cave, which was open to the freezing wind. These pictures appear to be in black & white, but they're not, it was just a black & white world that foggy day.

The cave at high tide, with two entrances. The sea lions are lounging on the center rock.

A group of sea lions out in the ocean. And a grey whale, spouting! We watched the whale for quite a while, it was going back and forth right there by the cave, feeding. Hard to get a good picture of it, tho.

A rock full of cormorants and guano. The Heceta Head lighthouse - which was covered up & being renovated.
