August 2, 2012 Back roads, side trips.....

Today we wandered around on the back roads and found our way to interesting places. Spent a lot of time on the Historical Columbia River Highway in Oregon (south of gorge) and also on the Lewis & Clark Trail in Washington (north of gorge). Passed through some gorgeous places, saw wonderful orchards of pears and cherries (no I didn't take any), and even a field of lavender!

Outstanding in a field of lavender. View of the Vista House on Crown Point.

Very curvy roads! Rotunda of the Vista House, constructed in 1916 as the original rest stop for travelers.

Vista House, overlooking the Columbia River gorge.

Historic Columbia River Highway. Bridal Veil Falls.

Oneonta Gorge tunnel - foot traffic only. The trees in the gorge are wearing green fur coats!

Inside the restored Oneonta Tunnel. Horsetail Falls.

Did we buy some fresh-caught salmon from the native americans? YOU BETCHA!
Bubba with the Underwood Mountain in the distance behind him...

Here we are in Underwood, Washington!
