We saw a sign that said "Big Cedar Tree, next right" so we went to see it. It was a long 10 mile round trip on a bumpy gravel logging road, but we finally made it. Saw some sights along the way that made my heart hurt, as you can see. I guess a tree-hugger like myself should stay OUT of "managed forests", huh! The big tree was definitely big, but almost dead. It was surrounded by stumps covered with brushy growth. The brushy growth just happened to be huckleberries, blackberries, and thimbleberries. Yum!

Kind of a disappointment. This big guy should be surrounded by others like it. Phooey. Was its age indicated anywhere? (managed forests, indeed)
ReplyDeleteManaged Forests done by the brilliant Department of Natural Resources is why there are 57 forests going up in flames right now. The more forests they Manage to cut down, the less moisture is in the air, leading to less rain, and drier timber...
