August 10, 2018 St. Michael's Basilica, Miramichi, New Brunswick

During our travels around Miramichi, we could see this beautiful church rising above the rest of the town.  It's St. Michael's Basilica, and we hiked up the hill to it and went inside.  Just beautiful, with the sun streaming in thru the stained glass.  Built in the early 1900's, it's on the site of two prior St. Michael's churches, the first built in 1839.  Fires destroyed them both as they were wooden structures.  It's a fascinating history, please click the link and read about it.  Here are pictures for you.

We came back out through this side door.  The warning made us both wonder
how many people got bonked on the head by ice to cause this sign.....

  1. Beautiful church. We have a sign like that at our local grocery store ... which makes me grin when I see it and it's 98F outside!
