August 7, 2018 Pioneer Museum, Grande Digue, New Brunswick

Today we went up the road to see the Pioneer Museum at Grande Digue.  For those familiar with Lafayette, Louisiana, it reminded us a bit of the Acadian Village.  Restored old buildings from when the Acadian people lived here, before the Le Grand Derangement, with artifacts from the local community of Grande Digue.  All the buildings were beautifully staged and had good signage explaining things - most of it was in French and English.  Here are a few pictures for you.

First that that greeted us was this beautiful mural,
complete with statues of two children.
Signage!  Explains things.

Beautiful flowers in front....

Somehow I doubt that these old mowers would cut much grass today.

The old lighthouse was pretty cool.
View of the rear of the lighthouse, showing the pole for the light.
And a carved chunk of granite.
Inside the lighthouse, you can see how the light keeper had to climb
up the wall post to get to the roof.

An old building, recently moved on site, that will become the new visitor center.
A peek through the door of the old building;  needs work, eh?

Everywhere we go, we see these gigantic white blooms.
Are they hydrangeas?  Or something called snowballs?

  1. Looks like a cool museum to visit. Beautiful flowers, and, yes, these Snowballs are Hydrangeas. They sure look happy!
