After the crowds of yesterday on Mt. Desert Island of Acadia National Park, today we opted to visit another piece of the ANP which is much less visited - Schoodic Peninsula. It was our first time over here and oh my, how nice! Very few people and just as scenic. Of course we had the ever-present sea fog which obscured our view of Mt. Desert Island, but whatcha gonna do? This park also has a loop road and we did the drive and stopped at the places. Highly recommend!
There is a lovely campground here and if we come back, it'll be our first choice....
Hope you can read this. Enlarge if necessary.
This is a relief map we saw in the visitor center. On the left is the eastern part of Mt. Desert Island. On the right is the Schoodic Peninsula.
The Schoodic Institute is located in the historic Rockefeller Building, which was part of the Naval Security Group Activity, Winter Harbor. Click the links for more information; quite interesting.
The Rockefeller Building has a fascinating construction. Including wooden pegs securing the wooden supports. Click the link to see more about it's reconstruction.

Take a look at the name on the typewriter..... :)
Further down at the tip of the peninsula, we learned some stuff.
Still lots of sea fog, but plenty of lively surf!
Signage is our friend! It's how we learn about where we are.....

Here is a classic example a diabase dike.

Surf was just pounding away on this "soft" dike.
In another part of the Schoodic point, there's an area of little rounded rocks deposited by glaciation. And where there are little rocks, there will be cairns.
Why hello! Got a carrot?
Please ignore the ugly power lines; this is a wonderful old house on the Schoodic Peninsula. Pure New England coast.

Nice that you were able to get away from the "maddening crowd." Don't know that we've ever been to Schoodic Peninsula ... if we return to the Northeast, we'll follow your footsteps!
