Our adventure for today was going all the way out to
Miscou Island (click the link) to the to see the
Miscou Island Lighthouse. It was a lovely drive on what we call "small" roads (i.e. two-lane and not fast). This lighthouse has been moved inland twice! Seems to happen a lot with lighthouses, the points on which they were erected erodes away. Also like most other lighthouses, the old
Fresnel Lens light is no longer used; there's new technology. On the roomy ground floor, there was a bandstand set up and each summer they have concerts - I guess the crowd gathers outside on the lawn. One of the performers listed was our very own Zachary Richard - how bout dat? Too bad we won't be there for his performance!
Here are some pictures for you to enjoy.....
| Saw these colorful boats all in drydock, such a sight. |
| This roof is pretty, eh? Acadian flag. |
| Signage...... |
| New stairs. |
| Trap buoys on the second floor. |
| Last few steps up are rather steep, as usual..... |
| Fresnel lens; no longer in service. |
This is the light that replaced the Fresnel lens light. So small! But very powerful. |
| The old wooden stairs. |
| From the top..... |
| Aaaaand, where there are rocks and humans, there will be cairns..... |
The beach was littered with lobster and/or crab traps, so of course they had to be decorated! |
| Humans even get artistic with driftwood.... |
By far the most elaborate cairn we've ever seen! See anyone in this picture? |
With rising seawater, the lighthouse will probably have to be moved inland again. BTW, you look really happy while you're Out and About these days ... I'm happy for you.
