Today we went further back in history, past the Acadian years, and into the First Nation culture. In this part of Canada, the Mi'kmaq people have been here for 3,000 (+/-) years, and they are working hard to preserve their heritage, language, and culture. The
Metepenagaig Heritage Park is a fairly new park, with a lot of information about the Mi'kmaq settlement here at an oxbow on the Miramichi River. Our guide, Lisa, was wonderful and told us the stories and the history. Another stellar learning adventure!

It's sealed together with tree resin. Still functional and with some mending, it can be used. |

| Sorry it's blurry but here is a picture of the oxbow in the Miramichi River. |

Just like the native peoples in the south,
the Mi'kmaq were mound builders. |
