August 3, 2018 Irving Nature Park, St. John, New Brunswick, Canada

We have moved on from Maine, USA up to St. John in New Brunswick, Canada.  Our big adventure here was a wonderful day spent at the Irving Nature Park.  The Irving family (think:  Irving Gas, Irving Paper, etc.) donated this land for a park, and what a great deal.  The park is well maintained and beautiful, and we thank them!  If you click the link, you can see a lot about the park.

Here is the beach on the Bay of Fundy at low tide......
.......and here it is at high tide!
This neatly combed "hair" dried on this rock after the tide went out.
Signage:  If you enlarge this, you can see it better.
We hiked the red (Squirrel) trail and the orange (Heron) trail.
First thing we did was the boardwalk out across the tidal marsh.
You can see that the tide is out......
That's my shoe, for scale.
One of the overlooks.  This one had stairs that went down to the "beach",
which disappears at high tide, of course.
Happy campers on the observation tower.
Helpful young man at the Irving Info center, showing us the skull of a male moose.

Signage is sometimes just so dang graphic!
Seal rocks offshore - these disappear at high tide.
Once again we spotted lots of Indian Pipe.
I like this shot because you can see the inside of the "bloom" if you enlarge it.
These berries are called Bunchberry;  they are edible, even the seed.
Haven't eaten any yet.....

And yes:  we were on the Squirrel Trail!

  1. Yup, looks like a great park! Did you buy a jar of bunchberry jam?
